50 EVs expected in 2024: part two

When you count the number of electric vehicles due to arrive on the market by the end of 2024, you realize that the coming year will be one of transition. It’s a pretty big one, with over 50 new models or versions of existing models expected to hit dealerships.

In order to give you an interesting overview, we’re proposing a series of five dossiers, each presenting around ten electric vehicles, to help you discover what 2024 has in store for us. To keep things simple, we’ll proceed in alphabetical order.

11 — Chevrolet Bolt EV

No, the Chevrolet Bolt isn’t new, but it will be in 2024. Last spring, General Motors (GM) announced that it was ending production of this car. A flurry of outcry followed, so much so that we decided to back off. In fact, the Bolt is based on an old electric architecture, while GM is introducing the new, more efficient Ultium structure. GM will therefore redesign the Bolt so that it too can rest on this more promising base.

12 — Chevrolet Equinox EV

The electric Equinox is perhaps the most eagerly awaited model, given its promised price of around $35,000. We’ll have to wait and see, as this more affordable version won’t be the first to reach us. Nevertheless, with a range of 400 km in the base version and an affordable price, the model will be a hit when it’s launched. More expensive versions will enjoy a range of around 500 km. Note that Chevrolet will continue to offer the gasoline-powered Equinox after the arrival of the electric version.

The Equinox EV is seven inches longer and three inches wider than the gasoline version.

13 — Chevrolet Silverado EV

Another eagerly-awaited model is the electric version of the Silverado pickup truck. Production of commercial variants of the Silverado has begun at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Detroit. The first model, called the 4WT, has a range of over 600 km and sells for around US $80,000. A second version for fleets, the 3WT at US $74,800, will follow, with a range estimated by GM at some 550 km.

For the general public, the first model will be the RST First Edition, priced at over $100,000. Expected in autumn, it promises a range of around 600 km. Other variants, including base models, will then be added to the range.

14 — Dodge Charger/Challenger EV

We still don’t know the name of the production model that Dodge will offer us in 2024, but we do know that we’ll be treated to an electric muscle car. The company is discontinuing production of its Charger sedan and Challenger coupe this year. However, a new concept has been making the rounds of motor shows for over a year now: the Charger SRT Daytona coupe. The electric version we’ll be seeing is inspired by it. We can’t wait to see what the company brings to market!

15 — Fiat 500e

Fiat has already offered an electric version of its 500 in the USA, but lost a fortune on each unit sold. Nevertheless, the Italian brand will be back in 2024 with another 500e, identical to the model we already know. The 500e is due to arrive in the United States in the first quarter of 2024. The production version is due to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. So far, we’ve been treated to concept vehicles with unique themes.

One thing to watch out for with this model is the price. If the asking price is reasonable, the model will sell, because people need affordable cars. If, on the other hand, the car is priced to the moon, demand will be very low.

16 — Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally

The Mach-E SUV has been with us for a few years now, but Ford has announced the addition of a Rally version for 2024. The latter can be recognized by its contrasting stripes on the hood, as well as certain styling elements that betray its off-road vocation. Mind you, this model won’t be able to keep up with the best adventurers on the planet, but it is designed to be capable of venturing off the beaten track. It also benefits from additional protective plates for the batteries, as well as a “rally” driving mode.

17 — GMC Sierra EV

The GMC Sierra EV is the twin of the Chevrolet Silverado EV. So we expect the same kinds of capabilities, but with a personality all its own. The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, the first of three trim levels, is powered by a pair of electric motors, for a total output of 754 hp. GMC claims a range of 600 km and a towing capacity of 9,500 lbs. Its 350 kW recharging system can inject 160 km of range into the Ultium batteries in 10 minutes

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will arrive in early 2024. GMC then plans to expand the range with two additional models: an entry-level Elevation and an AT4 off-road solution, in early 2025.

18 — Honda Prologue

The Prologue will be the first electric vehicle in the Honda family. It is the result of a collaboration with General Motors, which means it benefits from GM’s Ultium structure.

The model is expected in early 2024. It will be based on the Chevrolet Blazer EV, but its interior and exterior are the result of Honda’s design studios.

19 — Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

A new variant will be added to the Ioniq 5 family before the end of the year: an N model. At Hyundai, this letter is synonymous with performance. The first media tests of this vehicle are currently taking place in South Korea. The production version will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of November. The expected model should offer something in the region of 600 hp.

20 — Hyundai Kona EV

The second-generation Hyundai Kona has just made its debut. This time, although a gasoline version is offered, the vehicle was initially conceived as an all-electric product. The battery-powered version, which should offer just over 450 km of range, is due to make its debut in 2024.
