5 electric pickups due to arrive in 2023

At the time of writing this, two electric pickup models are on the road in North America: the Lightning version of the Ford F-150, and Rivian’s R1T model. We know that other suggestions are on the way, and should make their debut in 2023. Let’s take a look at what’s on the horizon, and at the two products already on the market.

5 electric pickups due in 2023

1. Ford F-150 Lightning

In the spring of 2022, Ford launched the electric version of its F-150 pickup truck. Called Lightning, a name the company had already used in the 90s to designate a performance version of its pickup, the model immediately generated a lot of interest, so much so that the company had to revise its production targets (doubling them).

So far, the vehicle has delivered the goods and received positive feedback from its owners, even if its range melts like snow in the sun when it comes to towing. In this respect, the Lightning boasts a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs.

2. Rivian R1T

The debut of the R1T pickup truck didn’t go as well as Rivian had hoped, but a year after the first models hit the road, things are looking up. Distribution remains limited, but production is steadily increasing at the company’s factory. In January, a production record was announced for the fourth quarter of 2022, when over 10,000 models were assembled.

Rivian delivered nearly 25,000 vehicles in 2022. If the current pace continues throughout 2023, between 40,000 and 50,000 models could be distributed this year (the R1T pickup and the R1S SUV). So there’s every reason to be optimistic for the time being.

3. Chevrolet Silverado EV

Chevrolet presented the electric version of the Silverado earlier in 2022. The model is expected later this year as a 2024 product. Contrary to Ford’s approach, Chevrolet did not take the structure of its regular pickup truck to give birth to this model. Instead, it based it on a new platform for electric vehicles (Ultium) to make it a clean vehicle (in both senses of the word).

The company also had a stated goal with this creation, which was to offer a version with a range of 400 miles, or 640 kilometers. It will be interesting to see what happens once it hits the road.

4. GMC Sierra EV

Continuing in the same vein, the GMC division, which will be offering its version of the Silverado EV pickup, is also due to arrive with its product by the end of this year. Conceptually speaking, the Sierra EV will share its components with the Silverado EV. As with Chevrolet, this means a partition between the cab and the body. This partition can be removed to allow longer objects to be transported by the vehicle. Both models will also feature a front trunk, as is the case with the F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T.

5. Ram 1500 Rev

Finally, the last model presented to the public was the electric version of Ram’s 1500 pickup. In the case of this company, we are entitled to delayed presentations. The concept was unveiled in January, but we’ve only just had a glimpse of the production version.

Many elements are still unknown regarding the latter, but several were disappointed to see that between the concept and the production version, many of the interesting features from the study were left aside. In fact, the Ram 1500 Rev bears a striking resemblance to the gasoline-powered variant of the model, much like Ford’s styling strategy for the Lightning. In this case, the vehicle will be presented in 2024, with a debut in 2025.
